India Club of Kingston

Kingston has a relatively large Indian community, partially held together by the India Club--an organization dedicated to promoting Indian culture. The club hosted a Roti Festival a couple weekends ago. Benny and I went with some friends to try Roti (sort of like thick tortillas--served plain or stuffed with things like lentil or potato) and check out the scene. Unfortunately, it was too bloody hot to stay until the late afternoon and see the scheduled Indian dance performance, but we had fun buying me a tunic and a silver anklet with bells on it. OK, maybe not so much fun for Benny, but he did get to see a performance of the steel drum band from the University of the West Indies. Now he's added steel drums to his list of instruments to learn (right after harp, trumpet, jarana, and who knows what else).

Also, we got some priceless pictures of our friend and colleage, Tammy, riding a mechanical bull. What does this have to do with India, you ask? I have no idea, but it was there, and Tammy, she is adventurous.
