What's Happening?

Updates from the land of jerk chicken and Red Stripe:

Happy April, everyone! How's spring coming along back home? Here in Jamaica, it's getting hotter and hotter, and the coming summer has people starting to share war stories about hurricane season. We've gotten all kinds of tips and are going to start building up a hurricane cupboard (canned food, LOTS of water, batteries, flash lights, candles, garbage bags, etc.). Let's hope that this hurricane season is not as bad as the last one.

We got some good news this week: Benny got a job in my office! He's just brimming with excitement to start waking up at the crack of dawn with me. You know he's such a perky morning person! I'm excited to get ourselves on the same schedule and be able to eat lunch together, etc. Plus, we'll be a dual-income family for the first time! Yay for 2 incomes!

Maybe with our extra income we could go bribe the customs people to let our household shipment through (JUST KIDDING!!!! Don't turn me in!). Our household effects arrived in Kingston last week, but the inauguration of new Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller basically shut down the entire government. We're hoping they'll clear our shipment this week, but a colleague of mine has had her shipment sitting on the docks for 3 weeks now, so we're not overly optimistic.
